Sunday, June 16th is Father’s Day! In honor of the tradition of fathers who love to grill, and since we’re all about enjoying the local food bounty, we wanted to share some ideas on how to grill some of the fruits and veggies you will be receiving this week.

My first tip – Invest in a nice grill basket if you are looking to grill those veggies without losing them in widely spaced grills. I’m sure they are on sale everywhere in honor of dads and summer. Check out Ace, Target, Meijer, etc.

  • I have it on good authority that the best way to make grilled romaine is this – Grill it “as is” (so it doesn’t catch fire), and then dress it with a favorite vinaigrette. My friend tells me their sauce of choice was a blend of olive oil, lemon juice, salt and pepper. Seen here with quinoa and cashew cheese.

Bananas

  • That’s right, we said grill those bananas! Place whole (skin-on) bananas on the grill for about 7 minutes, turning once until skins begin to brown and soften. Remove from grill with tongs, place on a platter, slice open with a paring knife and garnish with your favorite toppings! Nuts, local maple syrup, chocolate, peanut butter, ice cream and more! Great for customizing and crowd pleasing at a party.

Radishes

  • Remember those yummy radishes from last week? Throw ’em on the grill! This delicious and easy grilled radish and herbed mayo recipe comes from Cupcakes and Kale.

Broccoli farm market - ingra

  • How about a spicy and nutritious side dish? Many recipes suggest boiling chopped broccoli for a few minutes then putting in an ice bath. After this add your choice of marinade: garlic and lemon, chili pepper, olive oil, or a mix of soy sauce garlic and cherry chilis is one of my favorites.
